We're halfway through our current stay near Raleigh. We've made some progress in "destuffing" but have had some other issues to occupy our time, so things continue to move slowly.
The next few days will be devoted to preparing for, and working at, the Raleigh Hamfest on Saturday.
Our next move will be on April 11. Until then, it's life as usual......well, at least what's normal for us at this time.

MONCURE, NC: Little House Has Landed
Today (Monday) started early for us. We had Little House in front of Tom Johnson's Concord, NC location by 7:45 A.M. so they could install the recall kit for the refrigerator. To pass some time, we treated ourselves to a Cracker Barrel breakfast, and by the time we returned to the dealership, the repairs were finished.
About 10:30 A.M., we headed northwest toward Moncure, NC and Dickens RV Park. There are pictures on each page of the campground link which will show that we're in a no-frills campground with roomy and level gravel sites, good hookups and free wi-fi. This campground is located on a working farm.....the owner was in the chicken house when we phoned that we had arrived. After meeting up with us, he gave us our choice of sites, told us the various rates, said we could settle up at a later time and to call him if he could be of any further assistance. We're definitely in rural NC, although this location is only a few miles further from the house than where we stayed in Clayton but with much lower rates.
After setting up, we headed toward the house, stopping at a car wash to get rid of the road dirt that always accumulates on the HHR when towing. Little House will be stationary for the next couple of weeks while we tend to various projects and continue readying the house for sale.

CONCORD, NC: Same Town, Different Location
The Charlotte Hamfest at the Cabarrus Arena in Concord took place Friday evening and all day on Saturday. We shared a table area with two friends from Raleigh, Alan and Chuck. Hank and I were selling tickets and tables for the Raleigh RARSFEST to be held on March 30.
Today (Sunday) we moved 13 miles to the Tom Johnson Camping Resort, across the street from the Lowes Motor Speedway. It's not exactly a resort since there's no pool, clubhouse, exercise room, wi-fi, etc.. It does have over 400 campsites with full hookups on gravel pads, and it happens to be next door to Tom Johnson's service center where we have to be at 8 A.M. tomorrow morning to have the recall kit installed on our refrigerator, so a convenient location during morning rush hour is a big plus.
If all goes as planned, we'll be on our way back to the Raleigh area by tomorrow afternoon.

CONCORD, NC: First Night
We had a later start to our day this morning, but there was no need to hurry. Little House hit the road about 11 A.M. and headed north on I-85 for the 2 1/2 hour drive to the Cabarrus Arena near Concord, NC..... a multi-use facility where the Charlotte Hamfest will be held this weekend.
We are the only ones here tonight, parked in the rear of the buildings (satellite view) in a paved parking lot that has underground hookups for RV's and lots of bright security lighting. Tomorrow morning the dealers and flea market sellers will start arriving and setting up inside, and the hamfest actually opens tomorrow at 4 P.M. On Saturday the event will run from 8:30 A.M. until 5 P.M. We no longer sell items at hamfests, but we will be manning the Raleigh RARSFEST table to encourage people to buy tickets and tables for that event to be held on March 29. We should have several other RV's sharing our "campground" on Friday and Saturday night.
After settling into our spot, we visited with one of the vendors for awhile, then took showers and headed off to Fatz Cafe for a delicious dinner.

PIEDMONT, SC: Overnight Stop
We left Hoover RV Park at 10:20 EST for the 5 1/2 hour trip to the Ivy Acres Lodge and RV Park near Piedmont, SC. Once again, we had very windy conditions at times, but we made good time, making it through Atlanta with no slow-downs. We're in a no-frills campground set in the rolling hills, nothing fancy, but good hookups, free wi-fi and a quiet, natural setting.
We'll make the short drive on Thursday to Concord, AL where we'll be for the upcoming weekend.

HOOVER, AL: Sunday to Tuesday
Sunday we went to Debbie's house for lunch. Debbie and I were supplying most of the meal for Sunday night at Kathy's, and that turned out to be a good plan as Kathy was under the weather. It was an early night for all of us.
Monday was a quiet day in Little House getting caught up on financial records and computer work.
Tuesday we ran a few errands and ate lunch at On the Bayou in Hoover. Hank had Crawfish Etoufee, rice and Jambalaya, and Selene had a Cajun Antouille Po Boy. This afternoon brought heavy rain and high winds, and when we returned to the RV, the winds were probably gusting close to 50 MPH up here on the hill. All's quiet tonight.
We've enjoyed our time here in central AL visiting with family and friends. Tomorrow we will get Little House back on the road as we start out on our two-day trip to Charlotte, NC

HOOVER, AL: Day Two
The blog is a little behind, but here's an update for you!
We left Rainbow Plantation near Summerdale, AL on Thursday about 10 A.M. The journey was uneventful until we neared Jemison, AL. Luckily, Hank was listening to a CB frequency and heard the truckers talking about an upcoming huge traffic backup due to a bad accident, so we took the next exit over to Highway 31. So did a lot of other vehicles. It was slow going but at least we were moving. Returned to I-65 about 20 miles later and progressed on to the Hoover RV Park, but the delay added almost an hour to our trip.
After doing a quick setup, Hank talked with some friends on the local repeater and got an invitation to join a small group at a Mexican restaurant - Two Pesos. After settling a little water hookup issue with the RV, we joined the group at the restaurant. Another couple came in and sat with us so we had a chance to make new friends. After a delicious dinner, we returned to the RV for a quiet evening.
On Friday, we met up with the Lunch Bunch at Cafe Trentuno in Pelham. Kathy joined us as well for food and conversation. After returning to the RV, Selene made Chex Mix and Apple Dump Cake. We went to Debbie & Robert's for a homemade pizza dinner. Will and Meghan joined in the fun.
Saturday dawned colder with snow flurries. Hank and I went to the Birmingamfest and saw many old friends. After returning to the RV, we had a bratwurst lunch, then Selene made more Chex Mix. We're going to Kathy's for dinner tonight, and more family visiting.
