HOOVER, AL: Merry Christmas!!

The weather in central, AL is warm and wet, with several inches of rain, not snow.  Residents are out in shorts and flip-flops, instead of parkas and boots.  Road crews are on call for clearing flooded roads, instead of clearing snow.  However, the cookies are baked (thanks daughter Debbie), all of our children are scheduled to be here by Tuesday, 10 of the 11 grandchildren will be around us, extended family members will be joining us, and there will be singing, games,good food, and hugs all around. Christmas time is here!

HOOVER, AL: Let the Fun Begin!!

Yesterday, we made the 4 1/2 hour trip (including a long fuel stop and short lunch stop) from Eufaula, ALf to the Hoover RV Park, south of Birmingham, AL.  We made our first use of  Love's Truck Stop truck pumps and the process was not as fast or simple as in most places.  

The Hoover RV Park is just a basic paved parking lot with good hookups and fast, free WiFi, and we were surprised at how many RV's were already here.  There are 142 sites on the property and it looks like 3/4 of them are occupied.  We're in site White 14 next to an island where a Wi-Fi antenna is located.  The park has no attendant, bath house or other amenities, but the police patrol frequently so safety has never been an issue. Payment is by phone with a credit card or by cash or check in a drop box.

We'll be here until Jan. 2nd, enjoying holiday visits with our family and friends.  The weather is warmer than normal and the forecast is for wet and stormy conditions during most of our stay.  Two of our daughters live in the area, and we're looking forward to the the rest of the family arriving next week. It's beginning to feel like Christmas!

EUFAULA.AL: Christmas is Coming......

WE never got around to taking and posting pictures of our campsite at the Blythe Island Regional Park in Brunswick, GA......our home for the last week.  We enjoyed being in the wooded campground, and at night there were many campers decorated and lit up for the holidays.  It was a relaxing week and we both accomplished some needed chores and the weather was mostly warm and wonderful.

Now we're heading to the family holiday gathering in central Alabama.  We made the 270 mile trip from Brunswick to Eufaula today under mostly cloudy and sometime rainy skies, traveling via US 82 instead of taking the interstate route through Atlanta.  It was an enjoyable 5 hour drive on uncrowded roads, except for one traffic tie-up in Tifton, GA.

Tonight, we're parked in the Eufaula Walmart  parking lot, watching the holiday shopper come and go.  Tomorrow,, we'll finish our current journey when we arrive and get set up in the Hoover RV Park, south of Birmingham.  Family fun....here we come!

BRUNSWICK, GA: Same Area, Different Campground

We enjoyed our two week stay at the Georgia Coast RV Park that included meeting up with our friends from the Metter Roadrunners (a Georgia campging club).  The only negative was the tricky Wi-Fi that had you streaming along one minute and then it would drop you the next.  The owner has big plans for the park, including more sites, a very large building with entertainment area, another pool, etc.

Today we drove 4 miles north to the Blythe Island Regional Park. The large campground is in a wooded area - totally the opposite of the wide-open, even-rowed sites at Coastal Georgia - yet not quite as heavily wooded as Hanna Park near Jacksonville.  The campground has easy access to the Brunswick River on the edge of the park, and includes a fishing/swimming lake as well. The full-hookup sites are on hard-packed sand and include free cable TV (over 70 channels) and free Wi-Fi.  Last week, we picked our site based on the Wi-Fi signal (an antenna is right across the road), and so far we are impressed.  Both the Wi-Fi and cable TV  is much better than at our last location.  We're on site 87  (Campground Map ) in a section  which has the longest  pull-through camp sites we've seen anywhere.  Maybe we'll have some pictures to share over the next few days.

We are still going to central Alabama for the Christmas season, but decided to stay in this area as long as possible to enjoy the  warm weather.  It is still autumn here in coastal Georgia with some fall colors here and there.  We'll be at this location for a week,  and then we'll make a two-day drive to central Alabama to share holiday time with our children, grandchildren and extended family. 
    

BRUNSWICK, GA: Waiting for This Week

We've been at the Coastal Georgia RV Resort in Brunswick, GA  since November 30 , doing a little exploring, shopping and getting some chores done.  This week, the Metter Roadrunners, an RV club which we're members of, is having a campout at this park.  Several of the members are ham radio operators, and that is how we became connected with the group, which is  based in GA and has members from other states as well.  There are 9 RV's here with a few members driving in for the day tomorrow. There will be lots of fellowship, daily happy hours in the enclosed pavilion, and several meals together over the next few days as well as a holiday party on Thursday..

The weather here continues to be great - highs near 70 and lows in the 50's. There was a little overnight rain on Tuesday morning but sunshine has filled most days. This campground is a good one, with the only negative being the park's WiFi , which is not reliable.  The owner has explained that AT&T does not offer better service here. We're glad we have the Verizon Jet Pack as our backup.

We are pulled into site #112 so we have a lake view out the front windows.  We're in the site next to the building in the picture.

 






 Hank has done some fishing and today he caught a small bass.
