Asheboro, NC; Second Night

Friday was one of those relaxing days, with sunny skies, a light breeze and time to do as we wish.  The day consisted of walking to the office, visiting with fellow campers, some outside sitting and lots of computer time.   Supper was a pot luck with entrees such as chili, bean soup, sweet & sour meatballs, chicken wings, pork roast, etc., plenty of side dishes and salads and, of course, several dessert items.  Supper was followed by our chapter meeting and more conversation, before heading back to the trailer for...you guessed it....more computer time. Saturday will bring more enjoyment and some time to get some errands done, but more on that later.

Asheboro, NC: First Night

Yesterday, we left home for the 2 hour drive to the  Zooland Family Campground near Asheboro, NC.  This weekend is the monthly campout with our local Good Sam Chapter.  Dad has official duties as Vice-President since the current President is undergoing cancer treatments, so there was some 'stuff' to transport including a large sign with the chapter name and info on it.  There are about 15 other chapter couples here enjoying thiis outing.  The campout is undergoing some renovations and has lots of activities for all ages.  We went for a very early supper at the Dixie III Restaurant, a home-cooking type place with great service, good portions and very reasonable prices. Back at the campground, we had some visiting time with neighbors, and at 8 P.M. we gathered in "the Lodge" for ice cream with toppings, and lots of conversation.  I went to bed about 9:15 as my day yesterday started out about 4:30 A.M. We'll be at this campground until Monday morning, and this trip will last almost 3 weeks....but more on that later.

Concord, NC: First Night

The 155- mile drive today went smoothly and we arrived at the Cabarrus Arena about 3 P.M..  We are set up at the rear of the building where the Charlotte Hamfest will be held tomorrow and Sunday.  This is parking lot camping, with below ground level hookups which are a little more inconvenient, but since this venue is in a rural area with no other accommodations nearby, it's nice to be on site for the event.  We'll leave here Sunday afternoon to head home after 37 days and more than 2500 miles of travel.  It's been a great trek through the Southeast.

Anderson, SC: 3rd & 4th Night

On Wednesday, we treated ourselves to lunch at Fatz Cafe thanks to a coupon and gift card. This is one of our favorite restaurants but their locations are limited to mainly SC, some of NC, and GA.  We did some grocery shopping at an Ingles  store, then back to the campground for computer time and a nap!.  In the evening, we joined our friends and learned how to play Jokers and Pegs.

Yesterday, we took a walk, had more computer time, then sat outside with our friends and enjoyed the beautiful day.  For dinner, we went to Mellow Mushroom in Anderson and enjoyed a delicious pizza and conversation.

Today we'll be moving north on I-85 155 miles to Concord, NC,  where we'll stay for the weekend.  More on that later.

Anderson, SC; 2nd Night

After a 5 1/2 uneventful drive on Monday, we arrived at the Anderson/Lake Hartwell KOA about 3:45 P.M.  We've been here many times, and became friends with one of the former host couples who are still here waiting for warmer weather to head back to Ohio.  We'll be here until Friday morning, and look forward to spending some more time with the aforementioned couple. Last night we visited in their motor home and tonight we all went to dinner at Mama Penn's for good down home cooking. We'll see what opportunities tomorrow brings.  The weather here is cool and calm after the weekend storms.

Calera, AL: Day Four

We've had a wonderful weekend of family visits and catching up on each other's news.

 Friday included sharing lunch at Formosa with the TPARCA Lunch Bunch, and lots of weather watching as severe weather was a strong possibility for the entire state of Alabama and much of the southeast.  After lunch we went to Kathy's house for the rest of the day. We enjoyed a  delicious dinner and family fun,then thinking the storms were past, we went back to the trailer about 10 P.M.  However, we had to endure one last line of storms before going to bed about 1 A.M.

Saturday, we attended the Birminghamfest, then had lunch at WhatABurger ( a first for us).  We headed to Debbie's about 4 P.M. to enjoy another delicious dinner and get some laundry done, as well as tackling a few computer chores including learning how to use Blogger, before heading back to the trailer for the night.

Sunday included a little Walmart shopping, visiting with David and Heather, then back to Kathy's for another family dinner and lots of laughter.

Our time together has ended for now, and we thank all of the Alabama gang for their hospitality and hugs. Tomorrow will be a travel day as we head to Anderson, SC.

Calera, AL: Day One

We're now nestled in the middle of Alabama, at Rolling Hills RV Park in Calera,AL.  This is a church-owned property, with friendly hosts, and we have a nice pull-thru, level, gravel site overlooking the lake and a good wi-fi signal. It's quiet here this time of year, but in the summer, there is a youth camp on the adjoining property that shares some of the facilities with the RV Park. 

We arrived yesterday about noon and after setting up and getting cleaned up, we went to Talladega to get Robert from school so he could spend the weekend at home.

After getting back to Calera, we met Debbie and Robert for dinner at  the Golden Rule in Calera   then headed back to the trailer to wind down as our Thursday had started out early for us.

We're looking forward to the weekend, seeing some old friends, and especially spending time with the family that will be here.
