We have been very busy since we left Unadilla on December 17. We went to Columbus Georgia for RV repairs. The repairs were not finished in time for us to take the RV to Alabama for our family's holiday gathering, so Little House is still at Coachcraft by MacDonald in Columbus, GA. We are staying with one of our daughters in Montevallo, AL as our family members come and go for reunions and holiday celebrations.
We'll catch up the blog on the repair adventure as well as holiday activities in a few days. As of now, we're enjoying our family time. We plan to leave central Alabama on January 2nd, 2019 and return to Columbus, GA where we're hoping a healthy Little House will be waiting for us.

UNADILLA, GA: Hanging Out in Unadilla
We've been at Southern Trail RV Resort since November 26, and we will be here another week until December 17. Most of the time the weather has been colder than normal, with several nights of below freezing temperatures and more of the same for this week. There's been a couple of weekends with heavy rainfall and very gusty winds. Our campsite is on a higher end of the campground, so other than big puddles from time to time, there haven't been any water problems. But it sure has felt like winter instead of fall!
Unadilla's population is about 3500 people, but there aren't many retail options in town, so we drive 20 minutes to Perry, GA for most of our shopping. The town is surrounded by areas devoted to growing cotton, peanuts, and pecans.
Yesterday, we went to the Cracker Barrel in Perry for an enjoyable outing with George and Janice, ham radio and RV friends. We fill our time with computer activities, watching the campground's cable TV, and sometimes talking with neighbors......just our normal RV living.
Next week, we'll move to Columbus, GA for some RV repairs.

NOVEMBER 26 - Return to Unadilla
Last week, we enjoyed our stay at Kathryn Hanna Park near our daughter, Karen. Catching up on family news and sharing meals is always a good time.
Yesterday, November 26, we left Hanna Park about 9:30 A.M. We knew there was heavy rain headed our way, so we hurried to get our departure work done so we could get the slides in while they were dry. We got the car hooked up and were well on our way out of the Jacksonville area before the rain began. We reversed our route of last week to avoid as much interstate travel as possible, and returned to Southern Trails RV Resort in Unadilla, GA after 4 1/2 hours of driving. With our Coast to Coast membership, and Southern Trails being our C-to-C home park, the daily rate is only $12 for 50 amp hookups and cable TV.
The temperatures here are going to much below normal over the next few days, as is true in most of the south right now. This morning it was down to 32 and the next two nights may be in the high 20's, but warmer weather is forecast for later in the week. At least there's no snow near us!
We'll be here for at least a week, and maybe longer. Our next planed event is our holiday family gathering in central Alabama in late December.

NOVEMBER 8 - November 21: Unadilla, GA Stay and Moving On!
Our 11 night stay at Southern Trails Resort went well in spite of having rain showers for 5 days. Unadilla is a small town with just a few stores, including a small Piggly Wiggly, Dollar General and Family Dollar. One day we drove to Perry, GA about 20 minutes north. It is much larger with lots of stores, restaurants, hotels, etc. We stocked up on groceries, and a few other items. That trip kept us supplied duing our Unadilla stay, so most of our time was spent doing our computer activities and a little walking.
Monday, November 19, we took a mostly non-interstate route to Kathryn Hanna Park in northeast Florida, which took about 5 hours, including a fuel stop. The large park, including a large wooded campground, is next to the Mayport naval base with a mile of Atlantic Beach shoreline. We've stayed here many times since 2009. The park is owned by the city of Jacksonville.
We're in site #151.
After checking in, we found the left front car tire was flat, the same one we had fixed in Goshen in late October. ( with our tire monitoring system, we knew it had been fine while were moving on the road). With dusk approaching, Hank filled the tire with air using our onboard air compressor and hose, and Selene drove the car to our camp site. After getting Little House positiond in our site, he finished changing the car tire just as darkness took over, so another RV adventure was added to our history. . Our daughter, Karen, and her family live nearby so we met Karen and granddaughter Samantha at a nearby Chili's for dinner.
Tuesday, we spent 4 hours at a Chevrolet dealer to get the car tire repaired and remounted. After shopping at Publix, and returning to the RV for some relaxation, we had dinner at Karen's home.
We'll be in this area until Monday, November 26, enjoying the nice warm weather and celebrating the Thanksgiving weekend with part of our family.

NOVEMBER 8 - Next Stop - Unadilla, GA!
We had a pleasant stay in central AL at Minooka Park near Jemison, and were able to visit a couple of times with 2 of our daughters. We're looking forward to the Christmas holidays when the whole clan may be together....if we're lucky.
Today was a travel day once again. We left Jemison about 10 A.M. for our day's travel to Unadilla, GA. Hank decided to take a non-interstate route. The first half was south on U S 31 to Hwy.22, then south on US 280 to Opelika. We had the pleasure in Opelika to have a lunch visit with Hal, a ham radio friend. We finished our trip continuing on Hwy. 280 into Georgia, and then heading east on Hwy 26 to Unadilla. This relaxing drive took us through a couple of larger cities and many small towns. We passed many pine tree farms, pecan groves, and picked and unpicked cotton fields as we were drove in and out of rain and drizzle enjoying some of the fall colors. Traffic was minimal and the roads were pretty good overall.
We're settled into a site at Southern Trails Resort near Unadilla, right beside I-75. This is a membership park, with a Coast to Coast rate of $12 per night that includes full hookups with 50 amp service and cable TV. Our Sprint and Verizon internet access is very good. The gravel campsites in our section are very close together, but that doesn't bother us.
The road noise from the nearby interstate is minimal with doors and windows closed because of the cool weather.
We'll be here for 11 nights before heading farther south once again. With lows possibly near 30 here next week, we'll definitely be continuing our search for warmer weather!

OCTOBER 31 - NOVEMBER 5: Travel to More Family Time
Wednesday, Oct. 31 - After a great visit with family in nearby Louisville, we got the wheels rolling on Little House once again, moving south. Our overnight destination was the Sam's Club in Franklin, TN, south of Nashville, so it was an easy drive on I-65, with a lunch stop at a rest area.
Thursday, we headed south on I-65 once again, through Tennessee and into Alabama, stopping at the welcome center for lunch. After a fuel stop in Priceville, we made our way south of Birmingham to Minooka Park, near Jemison, AL.
We've lived in central AL twice and still have family and friends in the area, so it's always great to spend time here. Minooka Park is a county park 2 miles off of Hwy. 31 south of Jemison, back in the woods. It has a small fishing lake, many ATV and bike trails, several pavilions, a rest room building, and a small campground with 18 paved sites, ten with full hookups.

GOSHEN TO SHEPHERDSVILLE: Family Time Ahead!
We wanted our route from Goshen, IN to Shepherdsville, KY to avoid toll roads, so we took Indiana 15 out of Goshen, to US 24 at Wabash to US 31 south to I 465 around Indianapolis and on to I-65 southbound to KY. We heard bad reports on the road conditions from Indianapolis south and we found them to be true. Many of the I-465 bridge joints were bone-shaking holes,along with other potholes you just can't avoid easily in a big rig, and the first part of I-65 south of Indianapolis wasn't much better. But things smoothed out a little more as got farther south.
We didn't want to drive the whole route in one day so we searched by phone for Walmarts along the way that allowed overnight RV parking. After being told "no" to our phone call several times, we ended up being welcomed at the Seymour, IN Walmart and found a nice spot along a side grass area. There were several big trucks for neighbors, but that didn't bother us.
Our journey continued late the next morning. Because we were avoiding tolls, we exited I-65 at Exit 1 in Indiana to cross the Ohio River on the Geroge Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge.
We didn't know there was construction on the bridge that left only one lane open in each direction, and those lanes were very narrow. The speed limit was 25 MPH, and Hank drove Little House in these tight quarters with no problems. We drove a few blocks through downtown Louisville to find our way back to I-65 southbound and finished our journey to Grandma's RV Camping in Shepherdsville.
