Our last post was from Sunday, where we were awaiting service at Tom Johnson's in Marion, NC. On Monday, a new kitchen faucet was installed, more caulking was added to where the ladder attaches to the roof, and the tires' pressure was checked and adjusted. The new bed (covered by warranty) and the rear slide lock assembly (claim denied - we'll pay) were ordered and will take a couple of weeks to arrive. We made plans to return to TJ's after the parts arrive.
Tuesday, we left Tom Johnson's about 10 A.M. and arrived at the Fuquay Varina Walmart, where we received permission to stay overnight in the parking lot. After doing some grocery shopping, we spent the rest of the evening at the house, before returning to the RV to sleep. This was our first experience at "boondocking" (camping without hookups) in Little House, and was a test to see if the rig's house batteries could provide enough overnight power for Hank's C-PAP machine and other minimal electric needs. The test was successful.
We did have some trouble sleeping, however. Hank had tripped and fallen on the house driveway Tuesday afternoon, and the sore rib area resulted in a restless night since it was hard for him to find a comfortable sleeping position. He felt better this morning and thinks the remaining soreness is just bruising.
This morning, we left the Walmart lot and headed for a NC Good Sam gathering of 90 RV's at Goose Creek Resort , near Newport, NC, arriving about 2 P.M.. This is a huge campground (over 700 sites) with most sites leased by the year and some transient sites for visitors like us, and it offers many types of recreational activity. The sites are on grass, and close together. We found that our site (O-22) had multiple ant hills, (not unusual for southern locations) including a huge one covering the sewer connection. This warranted a call to the office, and an employee arrived with a shovel and a large bag of ant repellent granules After our ant experience in SC last year, we're a little paranoid regarding ants, so Hank sprayed all access points with our own repellent. Late this afternoon we both laid down "for a few minutes" and woke up a few hours later! Guess we were tired! We'll be here until Sunday, May 5.
