Our time in Raleigh is almost over. It's been a busy 2 weeks and we've enjoyed the time spent with old friends. Both of us had medical issues to take care of.
Selene had successful cataract surgery in March, but since then her vision was not as clear as it should be. A return visit to her regular eye doctor on Monday, Oct. 31 showed the most common complication of cataract surgery - clouding of the part
of the lens covering (capsule) that remains after surgery, called
posterior capsule opacification. The next morning, the surgeon performed a Nd:YAG posterior capsulotomy in his office using a laser to cut a hole in the clouded back lining of the lens
capsu) This provided a clear path for light to reach the retina. Her vision improved almost immediately. Tomorrow, she'll get new lenses for her glasses.
During their stay here, Selene and Hank both had checkup's with their regular doctors, so other medical needs were taken care of.
There's been visits with camping friends and ham radio friends, car repairs (brakes and wheel balancing), we voted by absentee ballot, and took care of vehicle insurance for next year. The weather has been beautiful with warm temperatures until the last few days when it's felt like fall. As soon as some mail catches up with us, we'll be getting the wheels rolling further south.
