Charleston, SC: Third Night

Because of our late night waging war against the ants, we had a late start to our day.  Unfortunately, our visitors had decided to stay and invite their friends.  So another attack was mounted inside and out as we tried to keep ahead of the charging insects.  We got the battles slowed enough to leave the rig, let the campground know about our problem, and get some supplies at Publix.  The camp owner had already been told by several other campers of the ant invasion and was planning his own attack via heavy spraying.  We tried to keep the critters at bay until he arrived about 4:30 P.M. and he generously sprayed all around the perimeter of the rig as well as the trees on either side of us.  Amazingly the number of ants we saw started to drop. Recently the field next to the campground flooded due to heavy rain, they've been cutting down sugar maples and grinding stumps, and the owner thinks those factors have stirred the ants into action.  This problem is not new to this campground.

5 P.M. arrived and time for another social hour, followed by a grilled hot dogs and hamburgers dinner.
We returned to the rig about 7:30 and though we're still seeing an occasional ant, the numbers have definitely decreased again.  Let's hope they don't wage another midnight battle.

Needless to say, our day didn't go as we had planned.  However, it is not unusual to have problems with all kinds of outside critters coming inside an RV to visit.  Common visitors are the ants of course, but also mice, fleas, and many other types of bugs.  When you're surrounded by nature, sometimes nature takes the upper hand.

With our rally officially under way, tomorrow will have several activities going on.  Stay tuned.
