Galax, VA: First Night

Our get-up-and-go was a little slow this morning so it was about 11:15 A.M. when we were ready to leave our campsite.  As Hank pulled away, the jack alarms sounded, meaning "jacks down, stop moving", even though the jacks were all raised.  A call to the service writer was made, and Little House made a return visit to the service area to have additional hydraulic fluid put in the leveling system.  That solved the problem and we were on the road around noon for the 3 hour drive to Galax located in the southern Virginia mountains barely north of the NC state line.

After a lunch break at a rest area, and fuel stop, we arrived at the Cool Breeze Campground about 3:30 P.M. for a monthly campout with the local Good Sam Chapter.  One of the host couples greeted us.  After setting up, the four of us went looking for supplies in Galax ending up at Kroger's, then decided to have supper at the Dairy Bar where we enjoyed great burgers and ice cream treats at very reasonable prices.  The four of us had a nice visit back at the campground inside Little House where the atmosphere was warm compared to the chilly temps outside. Lows tonight are expected to be in the 30's.  We're expecting 7 other couples to join in the fun here as well as another chapter's attendees, so more good times are ahead.

Cool Breeze Campground is a well-kept property although without some of the usual amenities like a pool, playground, camping store, etc.  There is free wi-fi and cable tv, and our chapter has been here the last 4 years, usually in the fall in order to enjoy the fall mountain scenery..
