Marion, NC: Second Night

Today dawned with heavy clouds leftover from the overnight rain.  Our day started very leisurely, and continued that way with computer work,  and ongoing laundry (catch-up mode).  Around noon, we decided to head to Walmart to get the Tahoe battery checked, and replaced if needed, but as we left we saw another chapter couple and others we knew, so of course we had to stop and talk for awhile.  The Marion Walmart doesn't have a tire and lube shop, so we headed to the town of Spruce Pine, the Mineral City, up in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The road to Spruce Pine is a steep and curvy climb, and offers beautiful views when the weather is clear, which it wasn't today.

The Walmart computerized battery tester determined we didn't need a new battery after all, and after some shopping we decided it was time for lunch.  We drove around seeing what our options were and ended up at  Bama-Que in Spruce Pine.  We both had the barbeque sandwich with onion rings (slaw on the side) with the  Sweet Heat sauce as our favorite.  This was definitely a down-home place with most of the food being home-cooked, and the service was top-notch.  The website even lists the employees' names.  We topped off the meal with a pumpkin pie dessert cup for Hank and a Coconut Creme Pie cup for Selene.

By the time we left, the rain had overtaken the mountain once again, and it was a rainy drive back down to Marion, where it hadn't rained at all.  We made a stop at the Verizon store to get some help with the screen protectors for Hank's new phone (now 4 days old) and to get some updates downloaded on the JetPak.  The skies opened up again once we got settled back in Little House and we were glad to be inside as the rain was very heavy.  The rest of the day and evening included more laundry, computer time and a visit with another chapter couple.
